New Breed XXII took place tonight at the Resorts Casino in Atlantic City. The event featured Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Competition at about the caliber we’ve come to expect. There were submissions, TKOs, a KO, and a few hard fought decisions. There were 5 titles on the line, all leading up to a heated rubber match between Jared Gordon and Robbie Lawless in the final fight of the night to decide who will be walking away with the Welterweight strap.

Fight 1 – Super Middleweight (160-169.9)
Matt “Hollywood” Harker (Wing MMA) vs. Collin “Razor” Sharp (Lancaster Family Martial Arts)

• Harker by split decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
• Back and forth fight, both showed heart, but it was “Hollywood” who landed more strikes and garnered a close split decision.

Fight 2 – Super Middleweight (160-169.9)
“Hardcore” Wayne Hargrove (Team Carvalho) vs. Anthony Chipe (Team Souza)

• Hargrove by Submission (Armbar) Round 1
• Looked to be a ground battle from the outset with products of two excellent Jiu Jitsu schools, but it was Hargrove who stole the victory with an armbar transitioned from the back in middle of the 1st round.

Fight 3 – Middleweight (154-159.9)
Robert “Fire Crotch” Tittermary (South Jersey Kung Fu) vs. John Gartiser (Ironhorse MMA)

• Gartiser by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
• Tittermary’s Kung Fu was “no good here” as Gartiser out wrestled him to a one sided decision, getting a plethora of takedowns, and transitioning frequently.

Fight 4 – 163lb Catchweight
Victor “Real” Romero (Modern MA) vs. Ivan Gomez (Team Souza)

• Romero by Verbal Submission (Straight Leg Lock) Round 2
• It seemed like Gomez had the upper hand for most of the fight attempting a few submissions, but in the 2nd round Romero fell back for an achilles lock, and rolled in a position which gave him a lot of room to torque, and although Romero never officially tapped out, referee Gasper Oliver used his discretion.

Fight 5 – Light Heavyweight (166-174.9)
Jason Ostrowski (Infinite MMA) vs. Aldo Eguia (Camp Undefeated)

• Eguia by TKO:Ref Stoppage (from Standing Strikes) in Round 2
• Ostrowski got an early take down but spent most of the fight on his back. Eguia came out striking early in the 2nd getting a knock down. Ostrowski survived a 10 count, but a barrage of strikes from Eguia caused the Ref to stop the fight at :46 into Round 2.

Fight 6 – Light Heavyweight (166-174.9)
Joe Synol (Wing MMA) vs. Lenny Lefebvre (Renzo NY/The Wat)

• Synol by Submission (Guillotine Choke) Round 1
• Quick submission win for Synol

Fight 7 – Super Welterweight (147-153.9)
Luis Finateri (Infinite MMA/ ) vs. Justin Jimenez (Rhino NY)

• Jimenez by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
• Jimenez dominated the entire fight with take downs, ground control, and overall aggression. Finateri seemed game and tried to finish strong, but wasn’t really able to get anything going.

Fight 8 – Super Heavyweight (210-249.9)
Harry Zander (Gracie/NEPA) vs. David Colabella (Iron Horse MMA)

• Colabella by Submission (Rear Naked Choke) Round 1

Fight 9 – Lightweight (130-134.9)
Gary Griffin (Modern MA) vs. Alex “Fightin Wildcat” Puma (Real Fighting Dojo)

• No Contest Dr Stoppage (cut caused by an accidental foul) Round 2
• It was a close fight, with Griffin scoring a take down in the first, and Puma landing some combinations. Unfortunately, we wouldn’t get to see the winner as Griffin and Puma butted heads, causing a cut which would lead the Dr. to call an end to the contest.

Fight 10 – Welterweight (140-146.9)
Phillip Ferraro (Maxercise) vs. Jeremy Pompei (Renzo Gracie PA)

• No Contest Dr Stoppage (cut caused by an accidental foul)
• This fight was shaping up to a “Fight of the Night” contender, with both fighters working hard in the clinch. Ferraro seemed to have an edge with take downs, transitions, and more combos landed, but an accidental head butt caused a cut which led to a Dr. stepping in. Hopefully we’ll see a rematch.

Fight 11 – Welterweight (140-146.9)
Alex Rodriguez (Rocco MMA) vs. Harry Sanky (X-treme Miletich)

• Sanky by KO (Spinning Back Fist) in Round 2
• Sanky responded to Rodriguez’s height advantage early by scoring a takedown, and passing directly to scarf hold, but Rodriguez defended on the ground well. Coming out for the 2nd round Sanky caught Rodriguez on the wind up with a lightning fast spinning back fist that dropped Rodriguez, and caused the referee to stop the fight.

Fight 12 – Heavyweight (195-209.9)
“The Fighting Inferno” Mike Andrillo (Team Inferno) vs. Wayne Peters (Ghettodaze Fight Club)

• Andrillo by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
• This fight was a brawl from the second the bell rang. Both landed heavy strikes, but it seemed like Peters was scoring more. Andrillo sealed each round with take downs and ground’n'pound, to earn himself a one-sided decision.

Light Heavyweight Championship (167-174.9)
Kyle Rigby (AFS The Asylum) vs. David McMahon (X-Treme Miletich)(Champion)

• McMahon by Submission (Rear Naked Choke) 1:13 Round 3
• Kyle Rigby controlled most of the first round, but McMahon eventually answered back dropping Rigby late in the 2nd. Rigby’s bell may have still been ringing going into the 3rd, because after getting mounted by McMahon he rolled giving up his back, allowing McMahon to sink in the fight ending choke. McMahon Retains his belt.

Cruiserweight Championship (183-189.9)
Anton Berzin (Rocco MMA) vs. Kevan Salisbury (Renzo Gracie NY/ The Wat)

• Berzin by Submission (Rear Naked Choke) :39 Round 2
• Salisbury avoided an early onslaught by taking Berzin down, near the middle of the round Berzin showed that he had some ground skills to accompany his striking by passing the guard, getting mount, and swinging an armbar as the 1st round ended. Berzin was able to let his hands go in 2nd landing enough punches (including two illegal punches to a downed Salisbury) to take Salisbury out of his game, and finish with a rear naked choke early in the 2nd, earning him the Cruiserweight Championship.

Dan “The Bear” Hughes (Fight Factory) vs. Kyle Weaver (RBF MMA)(Champion)

• Weaver by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
• Not the most exciting fight of the night but a dominant performance by Weaver.

Super Welterweight Championship (147-153.9)
Ryan Vaccaro (Jersey Fight Club/Triumph Wrestling) vs. Evan Chmielsky (X-Treme Miletich)

• Vaccaro by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
• Dominant performance by Vaccaro who won both the ground and striking portion of the fight. Chmielsky did a good job of defending, and had some excellent armbar escapes.

Welterweight Championship (140-146.9)
Robbie “Flawless” Lawless (Miletich Fighting System) vs. Jared “Flash” Gordon (Rhino NY)(Champion)

• Gordon by Unanimous Decision
• Despite the judges decision this was the most even match up of the night, and served as a rubber match between the two. Round 3 was the deciding round, as Lawless came out throwing heavy hands, stuffing takedowns, and landing knees to the body, but he may have spent too much energy and gave Gordon the opportunity to take his back mid way through the round and ride the position to what the judges called a “unanimous decision”, and a successful title defense.
